LineBy for iOS & Android · Last updated 3 September 2026

LineBy is an offline-first word puzzle for iPhone, with an Android version in testing. Playing on your own works without an account and without an internet connection, and the app is built to collect as little as possible about you. One optional part does use the internet — playing a match against someone else online, described in section 5. This policy applies to LineBy however you get it — from the Apple App Store or, once it is available there, from Google Play.

The short version. No account. No analytics. No ads or advertising identifiers. No tracking. The one optional in-app purchase (the Full Library unlock) is handled entirely by Apple or Google Play — we never see your payment details. The app does not request access to your location, camera, microphone, contacts, or photos. Your game progress can sync through your own iCloud (iOS) or your own Google Play Games account (Android) — where only you can read it. If you choose to play someone online, moves pass through a small relay we run, which stores nothing — see section 5.

1Who we are

LineBy is developed and published by 0n1 Studios, a sole proprietorship ("we", "us"). For any privacy question, contact [email protected].

2What we don't do

On both iOS and Android, LineBy contains no analytics or crash-reporting SDKs, no advertising, and no third-party trackers. The one optional in-app purchase (the Full Library unlock) is processed entirely by Apple or Google; we never receive your payment information. We do not collect your name, email address, or any contact information, and the app does not ask for permission to use your location, camera, microphone, contacts, or photo library.

3Your game progress

Your progress — your total move count, which puzzles you've solved, the board you're partway through, and the genre you last viewed — is stored on your device. LineBy does not send this progress to any 0n1 server. How it can optionally leave your device depends on your platform, and in both cases it goes only to your own account, which we cannot read:

If you are not signed in to iCloud or Play Games, LineBy simply keeps everything locally and works exactly the same offline.

4Creating & sharing puzzles

LineBy lets you build your own puzzles and share them with friends:

Please note: puzzles you publish, including any creator name you add, are public and visible to anyone with the code. The creator name is optional — please don't include personal or sensitive information in puzzles you share.

5Playing with other people

LineBy has an optional competitive mode where players race the same scrambled sentence. How your moves reach the other player depends on how you choose to connect, and only one of those ways involves a server of ours:

What travels through the online relay: the display name you type for yourself, the puzzle being played, and each move as it happens — what the other player needs in order to play against you.

What the relay does not do: it keeps no record of your match. The room lives in memory only while you are playing; nothing is written to a database, no log is kept of the moves or names passing through, and the room is discarded as soon as the host leaves or after thirty idle minutes. There is no account, no sign-in, and nothing identifying your device — the room code is random and disappears with the room. Your saved progress is never sent to the relay, and a versus match is not recorded in your stats at all.

Please note: the display name you choose is shown to the person you are playing against, so pick something you are happy for them to see. It does not have to be your real name.

6What we collect

DataStatus
Name, email, contacts, location, camera, photosNever collected or requested

Custom puzzles you publish (iOS only)Stored in a public CloudKit database so others can play them by code
Versus display name & moves (online room-code matches only)Passed between the two players through our relay over an encrypted connection. Not stored, not logged, discarded with the room

Those rows describe the app; the Android tester page on our website collects nothing either — see below.

7The Android tester page

Google will not let a new individual developer account publish to the Play Store until twelve people have tested the app for fourteen continuous days, so we recruit testers at 0n1studios.com/lineby/testers. That page collects nothing: joining the tester group and opting in happen on Google's side, and Google reports the tester count to us in the Play Console. We never see who is in the group beyond what Google shows its owner.

For a few hours on 2 and 3 September 2026 the page had a signup form. If you entered an address then, it is held only to send you the confirmation link you were promised, is never sold or shared, and will be deleted by 10 September 2026 — or sooner if you email [email protected]. Records are held by Cloudflare (our website host) and email was delivered by Resend, both acting on our instructions.
