What is a quote puzzle?
A quote puzzle takes a well-known line and hides it — by scrambling, encrypting or dismantling it — and asks you to put it back together. Cryptograms swap every letter for another; drop quotes and quotefall puzzles scatter letters down a grid. LineBy uses a tile swap: every letter is already on the board, just in the wrong seat. Drag one onto another to trade places, and each letter locks as soon as it lands where it belongs, so you always know how close you are.
There are five formats in common use, and they play very differently. Read the guide to the five kinds of quote puzzle — each one explained, with a working example you can try in the browser.
Every puzzle here was published as LineBy's free daily. The full iPhone game adds streaks, stats, Game Center, a 315-puzzle library across history, film and music, and a builder for turning any phrase into a puzzle you can share.
